Australian singer/songwriter Sia has released the official video for “Chandelier”. It’s equally dark as its lyric undertones (if you’ve read Sia’s Billboard cover story, you know that she has a complicated relationship with drugs and alcohol). “Chandelier” starts off sounding like a party ballad, but quickly charges the emotional highs and lows caused by addiction (“Keep my glass full until morning light, ‘cos I’m just holding on for tonight. Sun is up, I’m a mess, gotta get on out, gotta run from this. Here comes the shame…”).

This official video was preceded by a lyric video in which only a floating wig is present. This isn’t a big surprise, because the singer/songwriter is mostly known for helping out the likes of Béyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc.. and she has aimed to remain anonymous to the press.

The official video has a tiny dancer replacing the green screen suit and mask, facing demons of her own. This dancer is Maddie Ziegler (previously seen on Dance Moms) who plays a mini-Sia in wig, trapped in a depressing apartment. Ziegler looks incredibly mature and never resorts to ‘sexy’, adult-bodied imitation. The most striking are the parallels between a camera-shy recovering addict and a reality TV child star trying to break away from the show that’s made her famous.
