Solar Weekend Festival 2014
Creative festival Solar Weekend celebrates its 10th birthday with an equally diverse programme as ever. Techno, house, jazz, African beats, hip hop and other genres meet each other on stage, while artists and creative collectives will join forces.
This year, the festival takes place from 31 July until 3 August, at the Maasplassen in Roermond. Theme of the year is ‘fairytale’, as adult and tough as they come.
Solar Weekend is a true stepping stone for the creative industry and has become the place to grow creatively. Visitors come to the festival to broaden their horizons and experience new adventures during a long, magical festival weekend.
The main stage will have American breaks star Bassnectar with his spectacular, raw performance. Boys Noize’s explosive electro promises another highlight. Dutch hip hop heroes like Great Minds and Kraantje Pappie are placed next to jazz performances by for instance Hans Teeuwen & The Painkillers. Other acts to look forward to are Hercules & Love Affair and the collab between Noisia and Foreign Beggars: I Am Legion. And let’s not forget Hudson Mohawke!
Solar Weekend is all about ‘building together’ and that’s why Joost van Bellen’s Rauwlab will host Aeroplane and Green Velvet. The Techy Tent will see acts by Joris Voorn, Kölsch, Dominik Eulberg & Gabriel Ananda, and Timo Maas on Saturday. On Sunday, Dave Clark brings Berlin underground hero Marcel Fengler, Octave One and Technasia.
The Container Compound invites booking agencies Bespoke and Missin’ Link on Saturday; the best live hip hop on Sunday with Mr. Polska, Ronnie Flex, Gery Mendes, Rico & ART, Typhoon and Broederliefde. There’s also a VAgE gASTEN area and the House Of House, with Franky Rizardo, Chocolate Puma, Shermanology, The Shapeshifters, Hardsoul, Gramophonedzie, etc..
As always, Solar Weekend offers a beach camping, but they have upgraded the area for the festive edition. To top it off, there will be a big food market on the camping.
