Physical Check-in for Facebook Places
Mediamatic Lab introduces a physical check-in point for Facebook Places. With the original application you keep your friends updated about your whereabouts through a mobile check-in. For this new invention there’s no smart phone or tablet necessary, since you’re using an RIFD reader and RIFD tag at your location. With the RIFD tag by Mediamatic, a cart that looks like a creditcard containing a special chip, users scan the RIFD reader to check in at Facebook Places.
This psychical check-in point is mainly interesting for companies and events that want to level up their social media traffic.
Mediamatic Lab is a design agency that focuses on applications for new media. Their purpose is to connect the virtual and the real world. They work for companies such as Puma and Renault amongst others.
Momentarily the physical check-in is used at Mediamatic HQ, later on there will be such a check-in point at the exhibition Pièce de Résistance and the symposium Kom Je Ook? (Dutch for; Are you coming too?) about crowdsourcing.
