When metal meets wood

These wood castings by Israel-based designer Hilla Shamia have been created by pooring melted aluminium directly onto a wooden surface. The high heat of the aluminium on the tree trunk burns the wood slightly, leaving a charred edge when the mold is broken apart after the metal is cooled down. As the wood is cut lengthwise and a frame is mounted to define a final structure, a unique piece is born which is never identical to a second piece.
