The Fake Shaker chair
Korean designer Jaebeom Jeong of stonewater studio has created the ‘Fake Shaker’, a portable furniture piece. It is based on the traditional shaker-style chair, only this one is easily assembled and taken apart again. It is made of various pieces of wood, such as rose, walnut, oak and beach and a canvas or hemp seat.
The original shaker chairs were made by the shakers, a religious group that formed in 18th century England. They were very practical, their lifestyle based on order and efficiency, as was their furniture. The ‘Fake Shaker’ takes that concept and puts it into the context of today’s society, which is obviously in constant flux, hence one’s belongings must be easily transportable.
The chairs are currently on display at the KDCF Gallery in Korea.
