Eye of the World

Written by Margaux Villard

Eye of the World designs is a wood working brand made up by stylist-editor Hope Von Joel and wood sculptor Liam Motyer who make beautiful accessories out of wood and Perspex.

Their pieces are marked with an extravagant signature such as belt buckles shaped as pyramids or imposing breastplates. The result is eye-catching, yet they do not conceal the wearer’s personality but rather allows him or her to express something of his individuality through intriguing pieces. Organicity is also significant to the brand: all the materials are sustainable, reclaimed and provided locally in London or in the UK.

EOTWD blurs the boundaries between what is considered as works of art and what is considered as fashion and the excellence in craftsmanship has led the brand to successfully reunite style and design with nature’s most emblematic element: wood.

Over the years, the spectrum of colours has been made wider as they now use different woods such as iroko, cedar, oak, walnut-on which they add paints before associating them with modern materials, mainly PVC on belts, or Perspex for the AW 12/13

The creations of Eye of the world designs should definitely be remembered as quirky accessories halfway between sculptures and fashionable accessories that can add the little something to brighten anyone’s style and character without transforming it.
