One of the peculiar things to go viral over the Internet this year, were the images of Ukrainian model Valeria Lukyanova a.k.a. ‘the living Barbie doll’. Looking at the images you would think they were digitally altered. They are however ‘real’ in the sense that Lukyanova has undergone several plastic surgical procedures to resemble the image of Barbie. Big glassy blue eyes, balloon like tattas and a carved out waist make you wonder if we in fact we could consider this a picture of perfection. Obviously all is super imposed through the use of make-up and specific styling. The Russian model apparently has also ignited a discussion on ‘role-models’ and in which way kids should be exposed to these unrealistic ideals, as probably every little girl in the world owns a Barbie doll. V Magazine picked up on it and featured her in a special editorial.
