SAINT COURTNEY LOVE LAURENT
After just seeing the new Autumn/Winter 2013 womens collection of Saint Laurent Paris under the Grunge guidance of Hedi Slimane – I am convinced Courtney Love has taken possession of Hedi’s body, mind and soul. Or maybe she already did when he shot her back in 2006 (photographed). Whether it’s a good thing or not – I am sure it won’t take long before the reviews on Hedi’s blasphemous Grunge take on the YSL brand will hit the web. I always thought Hedi was more of a stylist than a designer anyways. Which isn’t a bad thing necessarily, just very different from being a designer. The people at PPR should’ve been aware of that while they hired him as creative director. Maybe it was also just an attempt of Hedi to bring back a bit of a rebellious rawness back into fashion – which it is currently lacking so much. Debatable, if harking back to the good old days of Grunge is the way, but at least someone had the power (or balls) to stage something ‘questionable’ design wise at a very big fashion house. If Courtney was in Hedi’s shoes she probably would’ve done the same – never conform to anything. In the meantime while everybody is spilling revolt over the collection, the show reminded me of how much I actually realy love Courtney Love, in or outside of Hedi’s body.
Check out Hedi’s 2006 quite fantastic photo series of Courtney Love, and an old video of Courney Love’s band Hole.
Tomorrow a new day.
