WIN: TRASH TALK

Trash-Talk-1024x680

Hardcore punk band Trash Talk comes to Amsterdam’s Paradiso on Tuesday 2nd July and we can hand out two duo-tickets for this – most likely – wild live show.

Their live shows are known to be hectic, especially since their free concert in L.A. last year in August. They played a show to celebrate the launch of a new skateboarding collection, but chaos broke out shortly after the band took the stage and maximum capacity had been reached. Security then involved riot police to keep the gates from being rushed. Cops are reported to have tased and pepper sprayed various gatecrashers. Attendees uploaded photos to Instagram to give proof of this, while the band documented it through retweeting a lenghty string of micro-transmissions.

Trash Talk was formed in 2005 in Sacramento and are all about DIY: they network extensively, tour without stopping, and record/press/distribute their own albums via their own Trash Talk Collective imprint. “It came out of getting frustrated waiting on people,” says Garrett.  “There’s that point of realisation: ‘Damn, this is all it costs to put out a record? Why didn’t I do that in the first place?'”

Along the same idea, they have repurposed a desolate mattress factory into their living quarters, near L.A.’s poor Skid Row district: “We wanted to get a spot that we can all live at and be creative,” says Lee. “We built a studio, a mini skate ramp and a bunch of lofts in there. It’s a place where we can practise, skate, make zines … do whatever we want, with our friends, on our own terms.”

The band members are close friends with hip hop band Odd Future and frontman Tyler, the Creator. They collaborate from time to time and Tyler has helped releasing Trash Talk’s critically acclaimed latest album ‘119’.
