Kavinsky video game
Kavinsky is especially known for his contribution to Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 crime saga ‘Drive’, in which his song ‘Nightcall‘ was heavily featured. His debut album ‘OutRun‘ (click to listen) has been released in February and on 8th July he will release a video game based on the record.
This will be the first ever video game to be based on an album and there couldn’t be a more fitting one, as ‘OutRun’ is cut out for the job with it’s atmosphere reminiscent of a film, or by extent, video game soundtrack. So Kavinsky teamed up with game developers to create an iPhone/iPad and Android game in which you have to “defeat foul villains and shady night creatures as you wander in the mean streets of Downtown LA. while your favorite Kavinsky records provide the soundtrack for your ride.”
The concept behind ‘OutRun’ follows Kavinsky’s backstory of a young man who crashed his Testarossa in 1986 and reappeared in 2006 as a zombie who produces electronic music. Kavinsky cites influences from 1980s video games, television cop shows such as Miami Vice and the films of Dario Argento.
