See how skateboarding company Isle translates memories to decks

The Curiosities series by skateboarding company Isle might look like a plain set of shelves, but it’s far more than that. The British born brand had a set of custom shelves made, in the same dimensions of a regular board shape and size. They then met up with the pros skating for them and they started collecting objects that related to each of them in a personal way. And now they made those decorated shelves available as decks for you to ride.

First up was Paul Shier who included a can of Coca-Cola as a reference to his catchphrase “Got 50p for a can of Coke, mate?” which was often heard in his days skating Barcelona, Fairfields and other locations. Then there is the collar of his faithful dog Bernard and a few other personal items. Shier also chose to add a San Francisco fridge magnet as a reference to his years spent living in SF, and a self explanatory well-travelled passport. The sugared goods in the top corner are a nod to his sweet tooth, while the Leatherman tool was a gift from his grandfather.

Then there is Nick Jensen who included some of his favourite objects – a vase, fruit, a money plant – and a reference to his artistic background with a set of paints that were used in his latest paintings. A promotional postcard featuring Morrisey and The Smiths reveal his musical preferences whereas the books indicate his other interests. To top it off, Jensen added a recent eBay find: a phrenology ornament that fits the space of the shelving unit perfectly.

Sylvain Tognelli’s deck represents his heritage and background by including French mustard and blue cheese. The foreign legion soldiers were inspired by Sylvain’s semi-nomadic lifestyle and love of exploring foreign land. Rounding it off, he added a Pernod bottle to wash it all down
