This photographer had her identity stolen, so she took revenge
In 2011, photographer Jessamyn Lovell was discussing a project at SF Camerawork, a gallery in San Francisco, when her wallet was stolen. The thief made a series of unauthorized purchases, leading to theft charges and a very upset Lovell. She was so angry that she decided to not simply replace her cards and move on, but to take revenge by tracking down the thief. The result is this photo series. Lovell hired a private eye named Pete Siragusa who was able to find the scammer, one Erin Coleen Hart. Lovell then began following her and photographing her in public spaces: “This woman entered my life without my permission and I then used that experience without her permission to create something new.” The 34 images from her photo project “Dear Erin Hart” was exhibited last month at SF Camerawork, the exact same place her wallet was originally stolen. Lovell even e-mailed an invitation to Hart for the opening reception.
