‘Medici’ chair by Konstantin Grcic for Mattiazzi
Our favorite piece of Milan’s annual Salone Del Mobile design fair is the ‘Medici’ chair by Konstantin Grcic for Mattiazzi. Mr Grcic is known as an industrial designer, but actually started as a cabinet-maker, so his collaboration with Mattiazzi is a return to his roots.
Three types of wood, thermo treated ash, walnut and douglas, are joined at geometric angles, resulting in a comfortable chair. The design is assembled from planks, referring back to the original slices of tree trunks and for aesthetic reason. The seat is divided into three parts, of which the middle continues upward to become the back. The ‘Medici’ is also available in grey and yellow, and when manufactured in thermo treated ash, also sustainable for outdoors.
